Earl interviews all the key players, coaches, and owners.
The Bengals Roar
an interview with Bengals' QB Philip Rivers
Earl Clumsly: Now here in sunny southern Florida, I am joined by Bengals quarterback Philip Rivers. Welcome to the Power Bowl Philip.
Philip Rivers: Great to be here, thanks.
EC: At what point in the game against the Broncos did you realize, "this is it, we're going to the Power Bowl?" and when did it really sink in?
PR: Well our defense really showed up and played a heck of a game. When they held Denver to a field goal with time running low, i was excited. I knew all we had to do on offense was get a first down to win the game. I dumped a pass off to Pettigrew for that game clinching play, and sealed our fate.
EC: Your counterpart playing for Detroit is making his 5th appearance for the Power Bowl. One with Buffalo and four now with Detroit. Do you think it'll be harder facing someone that is kind of used to the pressure of such a big stage?
PR: Toms a heck of a player. No doubt he's been there before, and probably will return in the future. But he hasn't played our defense in the big game. They have been coming up big all year and I expect them not to lay an egg in this one. Gonna need to get after him and hit him a few times, to take him off the high horse he's been riding this year.
EC: Both Jacobs and Dunn got hurt and out for the season. Did you and the team ever start having doubts as to whether or not the Power Bowl would be a realistic goal after that happened?
PR: No doubt losing Jacobs hurt. We used him damn near every play. Hard to replace a player of his caliber, but Knowshon has stepped in and done a heck of a job. Hell we had a great draft class this year, and offensively we have a lot of rookies that have stepped up. Whether it be Britt, Breaston, Pettigrew, or Moreno. Hats off to those guys. And who could forget the neverending greatness that is Jim Kliensasser. He's been a staple of this offense for years and this year hasn't changed a thing. He's a beast. We never lost sight of the goal of a the Power Bowl. And while making it is great, we want the win to be truly satisfied.
EC: Well you'll definitely have your hands full against the Lions, but I wish you luck. I know everyone back in Cincinnati are ready to party with a Bengals victory.
PR: PBR's on me after the W
The Lions Roar
an interview with Lions' QB Tom Brady
Earl Clumsly: I'm joined here in Miami with Lions' quarterback Tom Brady once again. Hi Tom how was the flight down?
Tom Brady: It was great. I'm glad the Power Bowl is in Miami this year. There are a lot of beautiful women down here that will get to watch me win my third championship.
EC: So you're about to play in your 5th Power Bowl. That's only 2 that you haven't been to. Is it kind of becoming, well old isn't the right word, but normal for you? Almost routine?
TB: Since Ron Edele took over the Lions and traded for me immediately, I expect to be here. I book hotel rooms at the beginning of every season in the city that hosts the Power Bowl so that my family and friends can all come watch. It has been routine since I've been here. It was a big disappointment last year losing to what ultimately is a terrible team, the Eagles, but I'm confident that we'll get back on track and take down the Bengals this year.
EC: With the realignment this season it meant moving last year's national champions to your conference. Was there more competition this year with that move along with having to play in the same conference as the Cowboys and Buccaneers?
TB: We didn't have much competition during the regular season, but the playoffs have tested us. Moving the Eagles to the FFC was interesting, but they couldn't earn the chance to play us, so oh well. I mean, jeez.... dominated by the Cardinals? We beat them 30-0.
Anyways, the Cowboys have always been in our conference and look like they are going be our biggest competition for the title. Bill Hoyt is a great owner and they played us tough in the conference game, so I'd look out for them next season.
EC: Speaking of the Buccaneers, you just seemed to squeek by them, but blow out the Cowboys. What was the difference in the two games?
TB: The difference was scouting. We have a lot of experience against the Cowboys. We've played them many times before. Even though the score looked lopsided, 45-28, the game was much closer. I mean, we were only up 31-28 with 2:02 left in the game. Our D made some big plays to extend the lead.
On the other hand, this was the first time that we played the Bucs. They are run by probably the best Jiang in the NML, Darrel and he had his team prepared to play. In the end, we made enough plays to get by, but I think Darrel and not to mention, Ken Jiang and the Broncos may be future winners in the NML. They have far surpassed their oldest brother, Han.
EC: Well Tom, as always it's a pleasure. I wish you luck. This one, for you, would be one for the thumb.
TB: Thanks Earl, I look forward to speaking with you again at our victory parade. My prediction, Lions 35 - Bengals 10, even with Ditka.

Flacco Sent Packing
an interview with Packers' QB Joe Flacco
Earl Clumsly: I'm joined in the studio with new Packers quarterback Joe Flacco. Welcome. So how does it feel to finally know you're gong to be a starter in the NML?
Joe Flacco: Earl it is an honor it will be tough following a legend like Kurt Warner, but im ready to lead the Packers to the promise land.
EC: Buffalo had a few different trade scenarios going besides the Packers, like the Ravens for instance. Are you glad you were traded to a more established team rather than an expansion team?
JF: Absolutely I'm ready to win now and the owner Mike Phillips assured me changes will be made.
EC: The previous Green Bay quarterback, Kurt Warner, didn't fare too bad in his one year there. But the team obviously needs something to turn that corner. Are you that something and why?
JF: Yes with Frank Gore,Santonio Holmes, and a great draft class coming up it will be a great year in 2010
EC: So where will Green Bay be at the end of the 2010 season?
JF: Power Bowl or bust
Giants' Pick is Berry Good
an interview with Giants' S Eric Berry
Earl Clumsly: Today we welcome the first overall pick in the 2010 draft, from Tennessee: safety Eric Berry. Welcome Eric. You're a New York Giant, how does that feel?
Eric Berry: It feels great Earl; this is exactly where I wanted to play. The Giants staff couldn't be better and they are on the verge of something great with the team they are building.
EC: Going into the draft you obviously thought you would end up on an expansion team right? Were there any of those teams you thought you would go to?
EB: I kinda thought it was gonna be the Titans or Redskins but I’ll tell ya I’m very happy the Giants didn't hold back and grabbed that 1st pick.
EC: Were you surprised to be taken as the first overall pick in the draft with the likes of Sam Bradford and Ndamakung Suh out there?
EB: Originally I thought I was gonna go somewhere around the 5th pick but a few days before the draft Giants owner Jeremy Davis contacted me and told me they just picked up the 1st pick and I was there man so I knew were I was going before most people.
EC: Well good luck on the season, I know you’ll be a huge help for the Giants in that tough FFC East division.
Phil Simms New York State of Mind
an interview with Giants' coach Phil Simms
Earl Clumsly: Hello Mr. Simms, welcome to New York. How are you settling in with the new job?
Phil Simms: Hey Earl, nice to see you. I'm settling in great here it's good to be back home.
EC: The season is about a month away and suddenly Giants' owner Jeremy Davis calls you up thinking about making a switch at coach. What were your thoughts? How did it all go down?
PS: Yeah i was a little shocked myself. Mr. Davis called me up and said he wanted to meet with me so he flew me to NY in his private jet and we talked for a few hours about the state of the G-Men. We couldn't agree more that the Giants should be doing better and they needed a change of pace.
EC: Is it going to be hard getting this team ready for the season with so little time to prepare?
PS: No Earl I don't think so with guys like Adrian Peterson and Matt Ryan around we are already hitting on all cylinders.
EC: I know your time is limited as it is so I'll let you get going back up to Albany for training camp, but thank you for your time and good luck this season.
PS: Alright Earl thanks for your time. I gotta Championship caliber team and anything less than a title run will be unacceptable.
