Giants: A Year in Review
3/8/10 New York, NY - For the Giants 2009 was considered by many fans a disappointment. There were such high hopes for this team going into the season after a strong showing in the draft and the addition of running back Adrian Peterson from Green Bay. At first it seemed to all be going according to plan. Peterson was proving to be, perhaps, the best back in the league. Then he was hurt. A fractured shoulder blade sat him for the

rest of the season. After that, the season just seemed to slip away from the Giants and they finished 3rd in the FFC East and just missed the playoffs. Despite the obvious disappointment, there are some positives to the 2009 year for the team. First is the fact that they do have Peterson who will be healthy for the start of the 2010 campaign. Another positive is rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez has a year's experience under his belt and should be even better this coming year. So where does this leave the Giants going into the draft? What holes do they have to fill?
The good news here is that there aren't many holes and the Giants also have 3 quality quarterbacks on roster that can be traded to fill the few holes they do have. They couldn't ask for a better time for that either seeing as how there are 8 expansion teams entering the league this season.

The Giants do need cornerbacks and badly. Their best on-roster CB is Lardarius Webb who
might be a nickel corner at best. And as mentioned it's a good thing the Giants have a couple of QB's to use for trade; the G-men don't pick until the 3rd round. Draft wise the best corner that they can hope to grab would be Perrish Cox out of Oklahoma State or Jerome Murphy from South Florida. Murphy wasn't all that impressive during combine interviews and showed tendancies for being a prima donna. He is 6'1" however and that should do well against the bigger receivers in the league. Cox, while shows talent, also has issues of his own. While at OSU he missed several curfews which ended in him not being allowed to use the school's facilities before the draft. He also had a so-so outing at the combine. Though not considered as talented, Brandon Ghee from Wake Forest might be their best option in the 3rd round.
