What a Difference a New Owner Can Make!
6/8/10 San Francisco, CA - Our 49ers franchise has long been regarded as one of the best in the NML. Even though our team has never made it to the big "dance" we still are competetive due in large part to our great QB and fearless leader Peyton Manning. But since the end of the 2009 season it seems as though the fog that covers the bay area just hasn't lifted and won't lift for sometime. These are the times that are going to test the loyalty of even the most dedicated '9ers fan. Since the end of last season we saw our beloved team sold by Chris Dersham (who moved the team here from Baltimore) to his brother Chad Dersham (who has a history of questionable roster moves). We all wondered if the new Dersham would build upon the success of his brother since the tools were already in place, or would he cause the team to implode like the old
Giants and new Browns before? We got our answer on April 24 when Dersham 2 traded away that fearless leader I spoke of a bit ago. Surely we were given a couple 1st round draft picks and perhaps a stellar veteran to compensate for such a great QB right? Negative. We got WR Devery Henderson and the Patriots' 2nd and 3rd round picks. As with most of 49er nation I was stunned and quite upset. Let's just hope that management knows what they're doing and this Jimmy Clausen will prove to be even better or as good as Peyton Manning, but I doubt it.
As for the rest of the 49ers' draft they picked up a WR Brandon Lafell from LSU who should be a solid wideout as long as he's not similar to Dwayne Bowe.

San Francisco also picked up defensive tackle Brian Price from UCLA. Price, though considered small for a DT, brings quickness to the defensive line that should put pressure on the opposing QB's. Price's speed coupled with 3rd round pick Cam Thomas from North Carolina's bulk should be quite a headache to centers and guards around the league.

DE/OLB Koa Misi was also taken and will also help tremendously on defense though it's not clear whether he'll play in the three point stance or standing up.

Anyway you look at it this is a new 49ers team, one that the new owner can call his. Let's just hope this "new" team makes it farther than his brother's.
Derrick Brooks Announces Retirement
8/13/10 San Francisco, CA - All time great 49er linebacker Derrick Brooks announced his retirement from the NML today. Brooks has been with the team since the beginning when they were originally known as the Baltimore Ravens those first couple of years.

Derrick was not only a great football player but a great member of the community and will continue with that post-football. He is also active with his alma mater Florida State.

It is almost certain that Brooks will make it into the NML Hall of Fame, most likely joining previous teammate Jonathan Ogden should he get elected.
