Dick Doogans here bringing you my Packers off season round up so far. It has been a busy off season for Packers GM T.J. Fox, as he has made plenty of moves that he hopes gets this team to where it wants to be. The Packers started the off season off by moving veterans Robert Woods, Brian quick, Cameron Wake, and Preston Brown in hopes to improve their draft stock. I believe they did just that, with what could be one of Fox's best drafts yet. Gareon Conley will step right in and replace Kyle Fuller alongside Darius Slay. Fox would go on to take another 2 cornerbacks in this draft with the speedster Fabian Moreau and Ahkello Witherspoon. I really like Witherspoons height and speed and am excited to see the position battle for the slot corner spot in camp. 2nd round pick safety Budda Baker will come right in also and I'm sure will push Mcdougald or maybe fill the void of McLeod if the rumors of him being on the trade block are true. 3rd round pick WR Ardarius Stewart may have to sit a season or two before he can really help contribute to this team, but I like the potential there. The final pick of the Packers draft this year was QB Chad Kelly. My guess is Head coach Jim Kelly had a big say in bringing in his talented nephew to back up Derek Carr. With Carr's injury history I like this pick for the Pack. He should easily win the backup job if he can keep his nose clean. Fox also completely retooled the offensive line this off season by sending off the disappointing Ereck Flowers and adding Matt Kalil to replace him. Andy Levitre, Jason Kelce, Wesley Johnson and John Miller were also added to help this line. We also can't forget about the late season surge of Josh Kline, he really finished the season strong and should get the starting job at RG this year. These new additions should help Carr and the run game big time. Packers did lose their star aging DE Cameron Wake but added David Irving, Brooks Reed, and Devin Taylor who were all acquired via trade. The DT position will also have a few new faces, Hankins was traded away and Jamie Meder and Haloti Ngata were added to help fill the void next to Jarran Reed. LB will also be much different this year, Preston Brown was traded and replaced with a faster Avery Willamson and just today Fox traded away his stud MLB C.J. Mosley and Allen Hurns. In Return he got a young fast LB,Jatavis Brown, and last season's NML receiving leader Allen Robinson. Derek Carr tweeted out "Thank you Mr.Fox" Earleir today after the trade was made, so I think it's safe to say he is happy to finally have a #1 receiver. Speedster Cordarrelle Patterson was also acquired in a trade a few weeks ago. He will compete for the slot spot with Braxton Miller and will be handed the return man job without a doubt.
This off season has been a busy one as usual for Fox and his staff but I truly do believe it was one of the best for the GM's young career. I am very excited for some of these position battles during camp and the addition of Allen Robinson. Mosley will be missed but there is plenty of young talent on this roster that should help fill his void. I will be back with another update after training camp. Enjoy the rest of your summer cheeseheads.
